From October 26 to November 3, 2024, Widemount Dynamics Tech Limited represented The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) at InnoCarnival 2024, held at the Hong Kong Science Park. The event aimed to highlight local innovation and technological achievements while providing the public with accessible insights into cutting-edge advancements. PolyU’s exhibition booth attracted significant attention, particularly for its demonstration of a newly developed small robot prototype .
Professor Zhao Ruheng, Vice President for Research and Innovation at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, attended the event and visited the company's booth.
Equipped with LiDAR and stereo cameras, the prototype is designed to test advanced algorithms for flame recognition and localization, autonomous navigation, and monitoring-guided navigation . These technologies enable the robot to autonomously detect and precisely locate fires in complex environments, showcasing its potential for fire emergency response applications. Unlike traditional firefighting robots, this prototype overcomes limitations in low-visibility conditions by integrating LiDAR and stereo cameras to achieve real-time environmental perception and adaptive decision-making .
Furthermore, the design of the robot prototype is aimed at overcoming the limitations of traditional firefighting robots in complex environments, enabling it to work effectively under low-visibility conditions. Through the combination of LiDAR and stereo cameras, the robot can obtain real-time information about the surrounding environment and conduct autonomous navigation and decision-making.
